Computer diagnostics for warning lights in North York and Vaughan. We read the codes, find the cause and give you a price before any work starts.
A warning light tells you something is wrong. A proper diagnosis tells you what.
We read the fault codes stored in your car's computer.
A code points to a system. We check it to confirm what actually failed.
You get a clear price before we start any repair.
Once it's fixed, we clear the code and confirm the light stays off.
The colour tells you how urgent it is. Red means stop safely as soon as you can. Amber means get it checked soon. Symbols vary slightly between makes, so check your owner's manual too.
The engine computer has found a fault in the engine or emissions system.
What to do: Solid: get it scanned soon. Flashing: the engine is misfiring, which can damage the catalytic converter. Ease off and get it checked right away.
Engine oil pressure is too low to protect the engine.
What to do: Pull over safely and turn the engine off. Driving on low oil pressure can destroy an engine in minutes.
The charging system isn't charging the battery, often an alternator or belt problem.
What to do: The car is running on battery power alone and may stall. Turn off accessories and head straight to a shop.
The engine is overheating.
What to do: Pull over and turn the engine off. Never open the radiator cap while the engine is hot.
The parking brake is on, or there is a problem in the brake system such as low brake fluid.
What to do: Release the parking brake. If the light stays on, don't drive the car until the brakes are checked.
The anti-lock braking system has a fault and is switched off.
What to do: Your normal brakes still work, but wheels can lock in a hard stop. Get it checked soon, especially before winter.
One or more tires are under-inflated.
What to do: Set the tires to the pressure on the driver's door sticker. Cold weather lowers tire pressure, so this light often comes on in the fall.
There is a fault in the airbag system.
What to do: The airbags may not deploy in a crash. Have the system checked as soon as possible.
Flashing means the system is working on a slippery road. Solid means it is switched off or has a fault.
What to do: If it flashes, slow down. If it stays on, get it checked.
The power steering system has a fault.
What to do: Steering may suddenly feel heavy. Drive carefully to a shop.
On a cold start this is normal: the engine is warming up to start.
What to do: Wait for it to go out before starting. If it stays on or flashes while driving, the engine has a fault.
The diesel particulate filter is getting full of soot.
What to do: A steady highway drive often clears it. If the light stays on, the filter needs service.
